Filtration of aluminium can be broken down into several parts, depending on the\u00a0type of the\u00a0applied technology of cast production or on the\u00a0method of liquid metal preparation.<\/p>\n

Primary and secondary aluminium manufacture<\/strong>
\nManufacture of aluminium alloys meets the\u00a0requirements for higher purity of the\u00a0cast metal in order to increase quality of the\u00a0manufactured intermediate for the\u00a0final production (foils, blocks, ingots, rods, sections, …). The\u00a0filtration thus contributes by the\u00a0lower reject rate of manufacture of the\u00a0final product and by its higher quality.
\nMetal casting takes place in these sites by continuous or discontinuous campaigns of the\u00a0order of some tons up to some hundreds of tons and therefore the\u00a0large-area filters are used for filtration; they are placed in the\u00a0liquid metal distribution system. We recommend to place the\u00a0filters seated in the\u00a0ceramic filtration boxes utilizing horizontal or vertical filter layout.<\/p>\n

\"Al\u00fcminyum
\nThe filters ADTECH adapted for long-time temperature load, can be used for filtration. The\u00a0filters are usually used in the\u00a0standardized dimensions shown in inches with the\u00a0porosity from 10\u00a0to 60\u00a0ppi (pores per linear inch). The\u00a0filter size depends on its porosity and is selected with respect to the\u00a0filtration capacity, time of casting and layout solution of the\u00a0filtration box. Selection of filter porosity is determined by the\u00a0specific alloy, temperature of casting, metal pollution and requested output quality.<\/p>\n

\"Filtration
\nPrior to casting itself, the\u00a0filter has to be preheated adequately to secure its correct functioning. After completion of the\u00a0campaign the\u00a0filter can be reused, if the\u00a0filtration box is equipped by permanent heating. If the\u00a0metal sets up in the\u00a0filter, it has to be replaced for the\u00a0next casting campaign.<\/p>\n

Filtration in foundries<\/strong>
\nPollution of the\u00a0molten metal by hard oxides, causing problems with cast finishing, is the\u00a0main reason for introduction of cast filtration in the\u00a0foundries. Elimination of undesirable defects, e.g. cast untightness, porosity (blowholes), low homogeneity,\u00a0etc., often occurring only during the\u00a0casting itself, under the\u00a0impact of liquid metal turbulence in the\u00a0mould, is the\u00a0second main reason for filtration.
