Yang dimaksud dengan pemurnian ini adalah proses penambahan klorin, gas inert, atau garam klorin tertentu ke dalam cairan logam guna menghilangkan gas, inklusi, dan logam alkali dari paduan aluminium.<br \/>\nSeiring dengan perkembangan ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi modern, telah muncul banyak metode baru untuk pemurnian logam cair paduan aluminium. Cakupan metode-metode ini telah melampaui makna istilah \u201crefining\u201d. Oleh karena itu, ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi modern memperkenalkan konsep \u201cpemurnian logam cair\u201d.<br \/>\nPemurnian cairan logam adalah proses penghilangan gas, inklusi, dan unsur-unsur berbahaya dalam cairan paduan aluminium dengan memanfaatkan prinsip-prinsip fisika dan kimia tertentu serta langkah-langkah teknologi yang sesuai, termasuk pemurnian di dalam tungku, pemurnian, dan penyaringan di luar tungku.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Persyaratan untuk Proses Penghilangan Gas pada Aluminium dan paduan aluminium bervariasi sesuai dengan kegunaan bahan-bahan tersebut.<\/strong><br \/>\nSecara umum, untuk produk biasa, kandungan hidrogen harus dijaga agar tetap di bawah 0,15\u20130,2 mL\/(100 g Al), dan ukuran partikel tunggal inklusi non-logam harus kurang dari 1 \u03bcm; sedangkan untuk bahan penerbangan khusus, kandungan hidrogen pada foil \u201cdouble zero\u201d harus dikendalikan. Di bawah 0,1 mL\/(100 gAl), ukuran partikel tunggal inklusi non-logam harus kurang dari 5 \u03bcm. Tentu saja, kandungan hidrogen yang diukur akan bervariasi tergantung pada metode pendeteksiannya. Inklusi non-logam umumnya dideteksi secara kualitatif melalui pemeriksaan ingot dengan perbesaran rendah dan pengujian ultrasonik pada aluminium, atau dideteksi secara kuantitatif menggunakan alat pengukur terak.<br \/>\nHal ini disebabkan karena cairan aluminium dan aluminium oksida tidak saling membasahi. Fungsi penghilangan terak secara mekanis terutama bergantung pada aksi penyumbatan media filter, gesekan, atau tekanan fluida untuk menyebabkan kotoran mengendap dan tersumbat, sehingga memurnikan cairan logam.<br \/>\nMekanisme fisiko-kimia yang terjadi terutama berupa adsorpsi pada permukaan medium dan pengaruh gaya van der Waals, terlepas dari perannya.<br \/>\nKetika logam cair melewati lapisan media filter dengan ketebalan tertentu, kotoran akan lebih mudah dipisahkan akibat perubahan laju aliran, benturan, atau aliran balik.
