Dalam metode klorinasi, ketika gas klorin dimasukkan ke dalam cairan aluminium, terbentuklah banyak AlCl\u2083 berukuran sangat kecil, dan gelembung-gelembung tersebut tercampur secara merata dalam cairan aluminium.<br \/>\nHidrogen yang terlarut dalam cairan aluminium, serta beberapa inklusi mekanis, teradsorpsi pada gelembung AlCl\u2083, dan dilepaskan saat gelembung AlCl\u2083 tersebut naik ke permukaan cairan aluminium.<br \/>\nKetika klorin ditambahkan, beberapa unsur yang muatannya lebih negatif daripada aluminium dapat mengalami klorinasi, seperti kalsium, natrium, magnesium, dan sebagainya, yang dipisahkan oleh gas klorin untuk membentuk klorida masing-masing.<br \/>\nOleh karena itu, metode klorinasi merupakan metode pemurnian aluminium primer yang sangat efektif. N\u2082 disalurkan langsung ke dalam cairan aluminium.<br \/>\nCairan aluminium secara terus-menerus dialirkan ke dalam tungku pemurnian, dilewatkan melalui lapisan filtrasi bola alumina, dan dibilas dengan nitrogen, sehingga inklusi non-logam dan hidrogen terlarut dalam cairan aluminium tersebut dihilangkan, lalu dikeluarkan secara terus-menerus, sehingga gelembung-gelembung nitrogen halus tersebar secara merata. Proses ini berfungsi sebagai agen pemurnian dalam cairan aluminium yang diolah.<br \/>\nNitrogen tidak menimbulkan polusi terhadap atmosfer, dan kapasitas pengolahannya cukup besar. Proses ini mampu mengolah 200\u2013600 kg aluminium cair per menit, dan jumlah kehilangan aluminium yang disebabkan oleh proses pemurnian tersebut relatif lebih kecil, sehingga saat ini banyak digunakan.<br \/>\nNamun, proses ini tidak menghilangkan kalsium, natrium, dan magnesium dari aluminium dengan cara yang sama seperti klorin.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Penghilangan Gas dari Aluminium Menggunakan Klorin dan Nitrogen<\/strong><br \/>\nCampuran klorin dan nitrogen digunakan untuk memurnikan aluminium cair; campuran ini berfungsi untuk menghilangkan hidrogen dan memisahkan oksida di satu sisi, serta menghilangkan beberapa pengotor logam (seperti magnesium) dari aluminium di sisi lain. Komposisi umumnya adalah 90% nitrogen dan 10% klorin.<br \/>\nSelain itu, terdapat campuran 10% klorin + 10% karbon dioksida dan 80% nitrogen.
