Seperti yang diungkapkan oleh Profesor Xinghang Zhang dari Fakultas Teknik Material Universitas Purdue, mereka ingin meningkatkan kelenturan dan mengatasi kekuatan mekanik yang rendah pada beberapa paduan aluminium ringan, guna membuka jalan bagi penerapan industri yang lebih luas.
