Dengan mengurangi diameter gelembung, luas permukaan total gelembung-gelembung ini meningkat secara tajam, sehingga memungkinkan lebih banyak permukaan gelembung inert bersentuhan dengan hidrogen dan kotoran dalam logam cair untuk membawa zat-zat berbahaya tersebut ke permukaan cairan.<br \/>\nKunci dari proses penghilangan gas pada degasser rotari adalah kemampuan rotor untuk memecah gelembung-gelembung besar gas inert yang masuk menjadi gelembung-gelembung yang sangat kecil, serta menyebarkannya ke seluruh logam cair. Dengan mengurangi diameter gelembung, luas permukaan gas inert meningkat secara drastis, sehingga lebih banyak permukaan gas inert bersentuhan dengan hidrogen dan pengotor dalam logam cair, dan hidrogen atau pengotor tersebut dihilangkan dari aluminium cair saat gelembung-gelembung tersebut naik ke permukaan.<br \/>\nPengaturan aliran gas inert yang masuk ke dalam aluminium cair dapat disesuaikan sesuai dengan volume logam cair yang akan diproses. Kecepatan batang putar dan rotor dapat disesuaikan untuk menghasilkan gelembung dengan ukuran yang sesuai guna mempermudah difusi gas inert.<br \/>\nBaik argon maupun nitrogen dapat digunakan sebagai gas inert untuk menghilangkan gas dari aluminium cair. Kemurnian gas inert tersebut harus di atas 99,99%.<br \/>\nDegassing adalah proses penyemprotan gas inert ke dalam aluminium cair untuk menghilangkan hidrogen. Selain itu, degassing juga dianggap sebagai cara yang sangat efektif untuk memisahkan kotoran. Telah diajukan dua model teoretis utama untuk menjelaskan prinsip degassing. Model makro mengasumsikan bahwa penghilangan setiap pengotor memiliki sifat yang serupa. Model mikroskopis, yaitu menurut teori ini, karena tekanan uap hidrogen yang lebih tinggi, hidrogen terlarut berdifusi ke dalam gas cair aluminium yang disemprotkan.
