They fall into 2\u00a0basic groups, both types significantly differ in their filtration mechanisms:<\/p>\n<p class=\"align-blok\">The area of flat filters is significantly larger than their thickness. Impurities are only captured on the\u00a0filter inlet side by the\u00a0straining mechanism and by forming the\u00a0filter cake. In volume filters, both the\u00a0filtration effect on the\u00a0filter inlet side and the\u00a0capability of depth filtration are exploited. The\u00a0capability of depth filtration differs depending on the\u00a0size of holes, their cross section, lay-out and also on filter material.<\/p>\n<p class=\"align-blok\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.adtechamm.com\/es\/2017\/11\/29\/molten-aluminium-filter\/\">Filtration<\/a> by straining\u00a0<\/strong>consists in the\u00a0capture of inclusions that are larger than the\u00a0holes in the\u00a0front (i.e. inlet) part of the\u00a0filter. This method can capture only big particles, in particular inclusions that form films.<\/p>\n<p class=\"align-blok\">\u00a0<img class=\"obrazek_stred\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lanik.eu\/uploads\/RTEmagicC_cezeni_01.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"136\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"align-blok\"><strong>Filter cake formation<\/strong>\u00a0follows up on the\u00a0capture of the\u00a0first inclusions on the\u00a0filter face. Smaller particles get captured on the\u00a0big ones. The\u00a0inclusion layer gradually increases, reduces the\u00a0metal flow is reduced until the\u00a0filter is completely clogged. The\u00a0mechanism of filter cake formation makes it possible to capture even very small inclusions with dimensions of as little as 1\u00a0&#8211; 5\u00a0\u03bcm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"align-blok\">\u00a0<img class=\"obrazek_stred\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lanik.eu\/uploads\/RTEmagicC_filtracni_kolac_01.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"260\" height=\"193\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"align-blok\"><strong>Depth filtration \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0is carried out in the\u00a0whole filter volume. Its principle is based on the\u00a0adhesion of inclusions (bonding) on the\u00a0ceramic filter walls and the\u00a0mutual bonding of individual inclusions. During depth filtration, the\u00a0inclusions envelop the\u00a0filter ceramics, and the\u00a0individual particles of inclusions agglomerate and form &#8220;bridges&#8221; with their edges anchored on filter channels. The\u00a0efficiency of depth filtration may be affected by the\u00a0metal temperature, chemical composition of the\u00a0filter material and inclusions (wettability), and the\u00a0shape of filter channels.<\/p>\n<p class=\"align-blok\">\u00a0<img class=\"obrazek_stred\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lanik.eu\/uploads\/RTEmagicC_hloubkova_filtrace_01.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"173\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"align-blok\">If the\u00a0inclusion flows along the\u00a0straight channel wall, the\u00a0probability of its capture is lower, compared with the\u00a0case where the\u00a0inclusions are simultaneously in contact with more walls (e.g. in the\u00a0corner of a\u00a0square channel). The\u00a0smaller the\u00a0channel cross section, the\u00a0better metal whirling and the\u00a0quicker direction changing, the\u00a0higher the\u00a0probability of inclusion capture by the\u00a0depth filtration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"align-blok\">\u00a0<img class=\"obrazek_stred\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lanik.eu\/uploads\/RTEmagicC_hloubkova_filtrace_2_01.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"251\" height=\"177\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"align-blok\">The filter separation efficiency is strongly dependent on the\u00a0size of filter holes. The\u00a0finer filter caused better filtration effect. However, it is necessary to bear in mind that the\u00a0filter will soon clog.
